Citrus Belt Seniors
Score Big At Military
Championships
By: Frank Weiler
LAS VEGAS - Several Citrus Belt senior bowlers did well at
the recently completed Military Championships at the Gold Coast
and Orleans bowling centers.
Senior retired competitors have to be sixty years or older. It is
amazing that there were over 500 such competitors on hundreds
of teams, coming from all over the world, from all five branches
of our armed forces. The tournament included an equivalent
number of competitors in the active duty and retired (under sixty
years) divisions.
The tournament is managed by High Roller Inc., led by Brad
Edelman. Myself and all my fellow competitors are thankful to
Brad and his team for doing such a great job. This years tourney
was the 56 Th. annual installment of the Military Bowling Cham-
pionships.
The mission of the tournament is to bring together military
bowlers from home and worldwide assignments to participate in
outstanding competition. The competition establishes a comrade-
ship that all military members will always look forward to. The
tournament features a $50,000 prize fund.
Here are the top Citrus Belt senior finishers in each event:
Scratch Singles (4 games)
15. Wilbert June........................................931 ............... $175
22. Tom Smith ..........................................917 ................. 142
Scratch Doubles (4 games)
3. Zeke Veitenheimer / Frank Weiler ...1867 ............... $750
20. Marv Egeland / Les Claasen ...........1733 ................. 125
Scratch All-Events (12 games)
12. Tom Smith ........................................2717 ............... $115
24. Wilbert June......................................2686 ................... 50
SCRATCH TEAM (4 Games)
8. Budmen (Moreno Valley)..................5077 ............... $300
Scratch Team All-Events (12 games)
6. Budmen (Moreno Valley)...............15,124 .............. $450
The tournament featured some great scores including John
Donovan's 1063 (259 - 259 - 290 - 255) in senior singles. His
first three games totaled 808! While there were many great
scores, I mention John's winning singles score because he was a
member of the Budmen team from Moreno Valley. However, I
didn't list him above because he isn't listed in the Citrus Belt
Average Book for the last three years.
