Capitol Bowl Extensive
Remodel
Originally the El Rancho Bowl and part of the El Ran-
cho entertainment complex which included a drive-in
movie theatre and first-rate hotel on I-40, Capitol Bowl
is still a family destination for West Sacramentans.
Fondly remembered as the entertainment hub of West
Sacramento, the El Rancho complex lost steam after I-
80 was built in 1956 and bypassed “motel row”. The
bowling alley has always been owned by families with
the third family purchasing it 12 years ago and renam-
ing it Capitol Bowl.
“The remodeling of Capitol Bowl adds to the attraction
of West Sacramento’s downtown, from the new Com-
munity Center to the City College campus, from the
Turner Library to the streetscape improvements on
West Sacramento Avenue,” said West Sacramento
Mayor Christopher Cabaldon. “The city congratulates
the Capitol Bowl on its commitment to providing great
family recreation.”
“As a part of our community for 60 years, I believe this
newly remodeled bowling alley and restaurant will pro-
vide their same home town feel and continue to be an
important addition to our ever growing community here
in West Sacramento,” added Denise Seals, President
and CEO of the West Sacramento Chamber of Com-
merce.
Capitol Bowl’s remodel was extensive, not for the
lanes but for the social areas including the restaurant
and bar as well as the registration desk. The Café and
Lounge have a new, more extensive
t
hat in-
cludes all of the traditional comfort food for a bowling
alley café but has expanded to include some more so-
phisticated items including: a three-cheese macaroni
and cheese with bacon, calamari made with Buttermilk,
fish tacos and both regular and sweet potato fries hand
-cut fresh daily.
In total, the remodel and facelift for Capitol Bowl will
cost just over $600k and will include a new full-service
restaurant with patio seating, three party rooms and a
new bar area designed to
include live music. Most of
the funding is through an
SBA lender. The Redevelop-
ment Agency provided a
$140k low-interest loan for
equipment and furnishing.
When construction is com-
plete in about three months,
Capitol Bowl expects to add
three to five new full time
positions.
As family owners, Capitol Bowl is more of a labor of
love than a golden ticket. “Without the ongoing help
from the City staff this project would not have been
possible,” explained Ross Amin, co-owner of Capitol
Bowl. “Fortunately the City of West Sacramento has
been a tremendous supporter for our project as part of
the redevelopment of the West Sacramento waterfront
area.”

Sites, Proposed Legislation
By Terry Bigham
ARLINGTON, Texas –
The host sites for the United
States Bowling Congress Convention and Annual
Meeting have been determined for 2015, 2016 and
2017. At the 2014 Convention in Reno, Nev., delegates
will vote on 10 proposals involving changes to USBC

The USBC Board of Directors approved Indianapolis
as the site for the 2015 USBC Convention while Las
Vegas will serve as host in 2016 and 2017. The con-
vention in 2016 coincides with the opening of the new

Hotel and Casino that will be the site of the 2016 USBC
Women’s Championships.
For the 2014 Convention, delegates not only will elect
four new board members but also will vote on 10 legis-
lative proposals. Several of the proposed amendments
relate to USBC dues structure for state and local asso-
ciations.
USBC members are required to submit written
amendment proposals to adult league and tournament
rules and bylaws to USBC by September 1 for action
