OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS WEEKLY GLANCE
(For June 22 - June 28, 2016)
New Jersey bowler second in all-events at 2016 USBC
Open Championships
Jim Hosier of Wayne, New Jersey, made a run at the lead
in Regular All-Events this week at the United States Bowling
Congress Open Championships, but he finished one pin
shy, moving into second place with a 2,132 total June 25.
Hosier needed nine pins on his final shot to secure the lead
at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada, but left
the 3-9-10 combination.
He had sets of 725 in singles, 713 in doubles and 694 in
team. Brandon Novak of Chillicothe, Ohio, leads with 2,133.
Illinois competitor secures Classified All-Events lead
at National Bowling Stadium
While recovering from back surgery last August, Robert
Kruzic of Chicago Heights, Illinois, only had one question on
his mind - would he ever be able to bowl again?
Kruzic returned to the lanes five months after the proce-
dure and now finds himself leading Classified All-Events at
the 2016 USBC Open Championships.
The 54-year-old right-hander rolled sets of 621 team, 621
in doubles and 590 in singles June 24 at the National Bowl-
ing Stadium to find his way to the top of the leaderboard with
a 1,832 all-events total. Trudy Koberlein of Georgetown,
Texas, previously held the lead with 1,754.
"I'm still taking it all in," said Kruzic, who made his fifth
Open Championships appearance and first since 2009. "I'm
kind of shocked, and it's really great because it makes me
proud to think I've come this far since the surgery."
