Citrus Belt's Kimberly Hudson
Finishes Second At ABT Nationals
LAS VEGAS - The Citrus Belt's
Kimberly Hudson finished in second
place at the recent ABT Nationals, in
the senior division. At the urging of
friend and local teammate MARY
ANDRUCZYK, Kimberly joined ABT in
December.
She selected the upgraded gold
membership because it entitled her to
a free bowling ball. It was just what
Kimberly wanted to launch her ABT
career.
The ball she received and used to
nearly win the senior title was the new
Storm IQ Tour. It was the ball recom-
mended by EMPIRE BOWL pro shop
operator ZACH JELLSEY.
The ABT national tournament was
only Kimberly's third tournament. She
did pretty well for a rookie and looks
forward to many more tournaments in
the future. She is grateful to her
friend Mary for introducing her to the
competitive world of tournament bowl-
ing. Mary said it would be fun and
she was never more right then when I
received my $250 check related Hud-
son.
Hudson put together games of 185
- 180 - 182 = 547 to qualify for the
finals, and 199 and 193 during the
semifinals. She lost in the champion-
ship match because of seven splits!
Paul Nilsen Wins Palm Springs
8 Gamer
PALM SPRINGS - The man from
Greer Ranch Murrieta went to the
desert a week ago and dusted the
best scratch bowlers the date palm
area had to offer.
By averaging 235 during eight
games of qualifying, the Citrus Belt's
Paul Nilsen was able to qualify third
for the step ladder finals in the latest
Palm Springs 8 Game scratch tourna-
ment.
The finals saw the top five finalists
bowl one game step-ladder matches
to determine the tournament cham-
pion. From the third qualifying posi-
tion Nilsen won three match games
237 - 235, 220 - 170, 213 - 204 to
clinch the title.
The title game saw Paul defeat
Citrus Belt legend and top seeded
VINCE WOOD. Vince was the first
Citrus Belt bowler to roll a 900 series,
back in 1999 at the old Cadillac Bowl
in Moreno Valley.
Paul used his Storm Victory Road
and IQ Tour Pearl balls to take home
the $850 winner's check.
Therese Lloyd’s Big Monday
REDLANDS and MURRIETA -
Therese Lloyd celebrated the new
year in a big way while competing in
two scratch leagues on the same day.
Every Monday she bowls in Empire
Bowl's Noonlighter Senior Scratch
League at noon and then drives fifty
miles to Cal Oaks Bowl for the 600
Scratch Trio League at 6 PM.
That's competing in two scratch
leagues in a matter of hours!
Though she is a super senior,
Therese cranks out at least one 600
series every week and maintains an
average near 190. Recently Therese
had a really "BIG MONDAY" bowling
two 600 series in one day.
On her big day, Therese started in
the afternoon with a 644 (163 – 225 -
256) series, which outpaced all the
leagues ladies and all but two of the
guys. Her 256 game is high for
women for the season.
In the evening her 607 (181 - 225 -
201) topped her team and led to a 15
to 10 match point victory. The Citrus
Belt has many great senior lady bowl-
ers and Therese Lloyd is one of the
best.
Keith Forbush Bowls A "Clean
Sweep"
REDLANDS - Keith Forbush rolled
a clean series recently in Empire
Bowl's Senior Laughlin League. In
Citrus Belt circles a clean three game
series is called a "CLEAN SWEEP."
Folks, a clean sweep means you bowl
three league games with no open
frames! Repeat after me, "NO OPEN
FRAMES." Quite an accomplishment.
Many scratch bowlers bowl clean
sweeps because they roll 25 or more
strikes and make few spares. That's
not the manly way to do it. That's not
the skilled way. Keith Forbush
bowled a clean sweep the manly way,
the skilled way. Instead of twenty
plus strikes, he had twenty plus
spares. Now that's real bowling, a
demonstration of real skill.
Keith told me he could not carry
two consecutive strikes while bowling
thirty clean frames. That means Keith
did not have a double in his 595 (201-
201-193) clean series. It is amazing.
Great bowling Keith!
My congratulations go out to Citrus
Belt President MIKE RADDEMAN and
his awards committee (RICK HILL
and THERESE LLOYD) for develop-
ing such a great local award. The
Citrus Belt also awards a patch for a
750 series, a Dutch 200 game, step
ladder series, a triplicate series and
for leaving the Rotten Orange.
By the way, the Citrus Belt clean
sweep award is a wonderful red, white
and blue cloth patch, three inches in
diameter. The patch contains two
crossed brooms on a white field with
blue border.
Dave Snyder Bowls Rare Triplicate
REDLANDS - Dave Snyder bowled
a rare 600 (200 - 200 - 200) triplicate
series recently in Empire Bowl's Sen-
ior Laughlin league, using his favorite
bowling ball. No one I know at Em-
pire Bowl could remember a triplicate
with three 200 games. Other then a
900 triplicate, Dave's 600 triplicate
seems to me to be the coolest. By
the way, Dave followed up his tripli-
cate with a
607 (201 - 203 - 203).
Dave used the only bowling ball he
owns to roll his unique set. For about
twenty years now he has been using
his Brunswick Rhino, serial number
DBL0774. Dave keeps his green
Rhino so shinny that it nearly looks
new.
Dear friends, Dave uses this one ball
for strikes and spares and still aver-
ages close to 200!!!
How many scratch bowlers do you
know who use just one ball? How
many use a twenty year old ball? I
know one, his name is Dave Snyder.
Simply put, Dave is amazing. It is
amazing that anyone could do what
he does with one "weathered" ball.
AMAZING. .
