Russ Oviatt Wins PBA Western Region Aquimo Open
Mesa, Ariz., (September 10, 2017)
– Amateur Russ Oviatt defeated Jakob Butturff,
250-239, in a battle of Tempe, Ariz., bowlers to win the Professional Bowlers Associa-
tion West Aquimo Open presented by Columbia 300 at Mesa East Bowl Sunday.
Oviatt, who earned $2,500 for his win, d does not receive credit as a regional cham-
pion because he isn’t a PBA member. He defeated Josh Blanchard of Mesa, 212-187,
to set up the title match after Blanchard defeated Ronnie Russell of Grants Marion,
Ind., 184-156, in the opening match of the stepladder finals.
Butturff earned $1,700 for second place, Blanchard won $1,400 for third, Russell
$1,200 for fourth place.

Titles in Ukiah
Ukiah, Calif. (September 17, 2017)
– Jakob Butturff of Tempe, Ariz., posted a 7-0-1
match play record and knocked down 3,964 pins Sunday to win his 11th career re-
gional title in the PBA Ken & Kathy Fowler Auto Centers Open at Yokayo Bowl.
Butturff, who earned $2,000, defeated PJ Haggerty of Roseville, Calif., by 303 pins
for the title. Haggerty had a 5-3 match play record and 3,661 total pins for his 16
games including match play bonus pins.
In the companion PBA50 Open, Derek Gregory of Chowchilla, Calif., went 7-1 and
knocked down 3,575 total pins to top Craig Miller of Tracy, Calif., for his second
PBA50 West Region title. Miller had a 5-3 match play record and a total of 3,482 pins.

PJ Haggerty Wins PBA Battle at Black Oak
Casino West Region Title
Tuolumne, California (October 8, 2017)
– PJ Haggerty of Roseville, Calif., won
all 10 of his matches to post a winning 18-game total of 4,363 pins Sunday in the
PBA Battle of Black Oak Casino West Open at Black Oak Lanes, but he needed
the help he got from Chris Warren’s missed spare conversion to pick up his 12th
career PBA Regional title.
Haggerty, who earned $2,500, defeated the Grants Pass, Ore., veteran by six
pins for the title when Warren failed to convert the 3-6-10 in the 10th frame. War-
ren, who had a 5-5 match play record and 4,357 pins for 18 games including
match play bonus pins, was trying for a record 48th PBA Regional title to break
his tie with PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber, who also has won 47 standard PBA
Regional titles.
Weber, who also was trying for a 48th title Sunday, lost in the semifinal match of
a PBA Midwest Regional tournament in Ottumwa, Iowa.
