- JANUARY 2014
Q. My wife got me a gift certificate for a bowling ball for Christmas. My question
is what ball I should get? I average 192 my ball speed is medium and I like to
play around the second arrow. What is new in the market place?
A. I am a Roto Grip staff member so I have to let you know about the new Roto
Grip balls due to be released on January 6
th
. They are the Up Roar this is an
entry level ball but with great power.
It was built to go long and finish hard. The Asylum this ball will read the mids
well and finish through the pins. Then a new Cell the first in awhile. The Hyper
Cell is a Cell on steroids the proven core is wrapped up with the Micro Bite
cover-stock. This ball should help to open up most lane conditions. Great reac-
tion and power through the pins. For your medium speed I recommend the Hy-
per Cell. Enjoy!
Q. I bowl in league with a fellow who takes an eternity to start his approach. I
asked him what he is doing to take that amount of time and his answer is I am
going through my checklist. Is there anything I could say to this person to
maybe get him to speed up?
A. Print this answer out and take it to him, the check list should be done before
you get on the approach. The longer you stand there with the ball in hand the
more time you have to over think the shot. The muscles get tighter and you al-
low the conscious mind to take over your shot. When you bowl the best your
approach will be relaxed and automatic. The subconscious mind should be do-
ing all the work. Muscle memory gained through practice is the key to a better
game. Do your thinking in the settee area. When you get on the approach look
at your mark and go. You will bowl better and so will your teammates.
Q. I have been leaving quite a few seven-ten splits on good shots in the pocket
lately, I don't understand what is happening can you explain this to me?
A. Just because the ball is in the pocket it does not mean it is a good shot. I look
at the pocket seven-ten as a bad shot. The ball hit weak or from too far out.
Most of the pocket seven-tens are caused by missing your mark outside and in
the process of trying to recover lose energy. This causes a weak hit. In the days
before reactive balls this shot would result in a five-seven or five- ten.
The bowling balls today are so powerful now they almost always take out the
five. Then you are left with a weak seven, weak ten or the dreaded seven-ten.
When this is happening try moving your feet right a board, opposite for lefty's.
Many times the ball going too long is caused by not being lined up correctly. A
small move should get you back on track.

For Winter and Spring National
Tournaments in 2014.
The National Office has only been able to confirm three National Events so far for
2014. The first is our Winter Nationals at Sam's Town February 5 - 9. This event
features our new format for 2014 with 1 in 4 entries cashing, moving on to the Semi-
Finals. The side tournaments are Doubles and Sweepers. This event has a Doubles
1st Place of $5,000.00 for the Team with the low entry fee of ONLY $50.00 per per-
son. How many places can you turn $50 into $2,500??? The main event has the low
re-entry rate of only $75 for Gold members. Take ad-
vantage by register-
ing soon for the 2014 Winter Nationals.
The Spring Nationals, also at Sam's Town will run April
1 - 6. The Doubles part of this event guarantees a first
place of $10,000.
The Summer is where things start to get a little mixed
up. We will have a Summer regional over the 4th of
July weekend in Vegas, however no bowling center
has yet agreed to host this event. We have the Sum-
mer Nationals scheduled in the Chicago area, July 23-
27. This is the first national event in over 15 years to
be held outside the state of Nevada. Let's make it a
huge success we can schedule more events in the
Midwest and Eastern United States.
