Sha Bosman - A Leading Lady At
Empire Bowl
REDLANDS - How do you improve your
score by 113 pins? Change your bowling ball
smarty. That is what Sha Bosman did recently
as she bowled a 571 (117 -240 - 213) series to
lead her team to victory. After a season low
117. Sha came back with a 240 game by switch-
ing from her Hammer Taboo to her Victory
Road.
Congratulations Sha. You may have scored
the biggest one game pin increase, by a
woman,in Citrus Belt history - 123 pins! Your
second game 240 is also one ofthe highest
bowled by a senior lady at EMPIRE BOWL this
season. That makes you one of Empire Bowl's
leading ladies.
The "NEW" Del Rosa Lanes
Making Changes
SAN BERNARDINO - New manager RON
SANDUSKY asked me to invite all his friends,
old and new, to come in to the "NEW" Del Rosa
Lanes and say hello.
Ron promised me that things are changing at
Del Rosa and he hopes many of the lanes for-
mer bowlers will come back and check out the
new hospitality. Ron wants all San Bernardino
area bowlers to come in and talk to him. He
wants feedback from everyone, to find out what
bowlers want. He promises to listen and do
whatever he can to accommodate area bowl-
ers. Ron realizes "BOWLERS ARE CUSTOM-
ERS" and he wants your business. He wants to
forge new relationships with bowlers, tourna-
ment clubs and the media, especially the
BOWLING NEWS.
Friends, here is our chance to have the type
of bowling center we want. Stop by and talk to
Mr. Sandusky. He is all ears. "HAVE IT YOUR
WAY." San Bernardino doesn't deserve to be
without a bowling center. Take this opportunity
to be instrumental in Del Rosa's comeback.
Right now Ron's priority is to bring back
"GOOD SCORING" and a fun atmosphere. Del
Rosa has just spent $500 to tune up it's lane
maintenance machine. You can check out the
better lane conditions every Sunday morning,
between 9 AM to 12 PM, for one dollar per
game.
Want something new? How about trying a 16
week league. Sandusky is introducing two
leagues which will run from mid January to the
end of April 2013. The leagues will compete on
Monday and Tuesday evenings, one handicap
and one scratch. The "Anchor Girl" handicap
league will feature all teams with female anchor
bowlers. The scratch league will feature position
rounds every week. I love innovation like this
and expect Ron to serve up more of the same in
the future.
Lane Master Scott La Riviere
Bowls 805
MURRIETA - "When the going gets tough,
the tough get going." That's one way of describ-
ing what Scott La Riviere did last week, but
maybe more appropriate would be to say he
mastered difficult lane conditions. While Ben
Franklin might call Scott a tough guy, I prefer to
call him a "LANE MASTER."
Much to the liking of the old timers, who come
every Thursday night to watch, the lane condi-
tions are tough. While the best scratch bowlers
in the Citrus Belt's southern tier struggle to
score, the chatter in the crowd is about the old
days when the value of a spare was greater than
the value of a strike. If you want to score when
strikes are sparse, you better make your
spares. That was the way it was in the old
days. "WHEN STRIKES ARE RARE, SPARES
ARE GOLD."
When was the last time you heard bowling
fans speak of someone being a great spare
shooter? I don't remember any such talk this
century.
While La Riviere is a great spare shooter, he
took a week off from the rigors of rolling two
balls every frame. Instead, he became only the
second bowler this season, in Cal Oak's 640
Scratch Trio League, to roll at least thirty strikes
in one series and score 800. His 805 (268 - 300
- 237) is second high to RAY WINKOWSKI'S
811.
Paula Vidad Is Cal Oak's
Leading Lady
MURRIETA - Paula Vidad bowled a 715 (211
- 225 - 279) set last week, in Cal Oak's 640
Scratch Trio League, to lead her team to a deci-
sive win. Paula's Temecula Recycling team
began the night just a few points out of first
place and it's 17 - 7 victory places the team in a
position to win the second block, with two weeks
to go.
Vidad's series and 279 game are season
highs for the ladies in the league. Teammates
ROWDY HOUSTON and SEAN KUCERA con-
tributed to the team win with several 220 games.
Paula, a Citrus Belt and Southern California
Hall of Famer, had her greatest triumph just over
a year ago when she won the USBC National
Senior Queens Tournament. Her title came
against the best senior women in the world. The
BOWLING NEWS recognizes Paula and all of
our California women for being the best lady
bowlers in the world.
Moreno Valley Bowl's "Top Ten"
MORENO VALLEY - Brunswick Moreno
Valley Bowl's Scratch Challenge League is
sporting nineteen bowlers with a 220 average or
better. This number means that an amazing
52% (19 of 36) of the league bowlers average
220 or better! Only three of the thirty-six league
members are averaging below 200. A list of the
Top Ten average bowlers follow:
1. Mark Dyer..............................................242
2. Lawrence Connor, Jr.............................238
3. Lonnie Ritchey ......................................238
4. Joe Vasquez .........................................233
5. Nathan Urritia........................................232
6. E. B. De La Cobas ...............................231
7. Shawn Swindell.....................................230
8. Merrill Nunally .......................................230
9. Nick Reed..............................................228
10. Rick Jackson.........................................228
Both of the ladies in the league are averaging
218. AMANDA MILBURN is at 218.6 and
KATHY ALLEN is at 218.1.
Santa Claus Visits Empire Bowl
By: Frank Weiler and Therese Lloyd
REDLANDS - WILL MOSSONTTE, Empire
Bowl's proprietor, hosted the lanes annual
Christmas party for it's employees, their families
and special guests.
The highlight of the night was a visit by Santa
Claus with a bag of gifts for all the kids. It was a
thrill to watch each child's eyes light up
when it was his or her turn to sit on Santa's
lap. As Santa was leaving, one eight year old
boy looked up at the jolly old man and whis-
pered: "where are your reindeer?" It was a
precious moment. The legend of Santa Claus
lives!
The party included a great buffet, an open bar
and free bowling for everyone. Manager
SHERRY WILLIAMS closed the lanes to the
public to ensure everyone could relax and have
a great time. Oh yes, the employees were
thrilled to receive their Christmas bonuses from
Mr. Mossontte.
