12th Annual Willie Taylor
Memorial
We had 44 bowlers for the 12th Annual
Willie Taylor Memorial Scratch Gamer.
Willie Taylor was one of Modesto's all time
greatest bowlers and a friend to all who
knew him. Willie passed unexpectedly 12
years ago and each August we honor his
memory with a scratch tournament that
raises money for the Willie Taylor Memo-
rial Scholarship Fund. This year we raised
$440 for the fund that goes to Yosemite
Lanes high average and high series Youth
Boy and Girl each year. So once again
thank you to the bowlers who participated.
This year we had $600.00 in ADDED
money for our sponsors Freddy's Tree
Service, Yosemite Lanes, and a anony-
mous donor. Thank you to our sponsors.
The tournament was led by Rick Francis
of Modesto with a 1496 6game total (a 249
average). Qualifying 2nd was Richard
Oakes Jr. of Fresno with a 1492 (248 av-
erage), 3rd Nick Kelley of Modesto 1487
(247 average), 4th Freddy Irvin of Modesto
1484 (247 average), and 5th Will Garber
of Modesto 1471 (245 average). So only
25 pins separated our high qualifier and
the 5th place qualifier.
And thanks to the ADDED money we
were able to pay 14 spots. 14th being
Kevin Wix Sr. with a 1389 6 game total
(231 average) was low to cash.
Match 1 saw Freddy Irvin defeating Will
Garber 262 to 233. Match 2 went to Nick
Kelley 243 to 217 over Freddy. Nick kept it
going in a very close match defeating
Richard Oakes Jr. 257 to 247 in Match 3.
In the Championship Match it was all Nick
Kelley as he defeated Rick Francis 254 to
209 to win the 12th Annual Willie Taylor
Tournament and $466.00. This was Nick's
first 6gamer win since July of 2016 and his
8th overall. Congratulations Nick and to all
the other cashiers.
