2013 TAT Summer Classic
June 30 - July 6
Greetings from Las Vegas - the Bowling Capital of the
World
Summer is coming quickly and we are getting ready for the
2013 TAT Summer Classic. We are glad to be back at Or-
leans again and they have great room rates available. So call
them at 1-800-675-3267 and mention code A3TACO6 for
rates starting at $32.
The feedback from the February event about new
changes was great: No-Tap
Sweeper in divisions, the 205
Division with handicap and
needing to win only 4 rounds to
get to the Title Match.
In the February TAT, 130 players out of 402 - almost a 1 in
3 ratio - bowled in the finals guaranteed at least $500. And
the TAT guarantees a minimum of $100 for each round you
advance. Many rounds paid much more than $100. And of
course each Daily Leader in each division receive a $250
bonus.
We are very pleased to announce that for the first time
Storm, the Bowler's Company, will be the Presenting Spon-
sor. That means TAT bowlers can receive new and different
equipment from the industry's top manu-
facturer. And of course, only Storm
products will be eligible to be used in the
Storm Challenge. Make sure to visit the
Storm Crew at the Storm Showcase
lanes for testing new equipment and to warm-up for your next
squad.
The same entry fee packages will be offered, with or with-
out Storm balls, so there is a package for everyone's budget.
Marathon entrants will be happy to see reduced re-entries
and a brand new purse - just for them - at no extra cost.
With 2 Chance tournaments instead of the usual 3, prizes
will be larger and more of them. The top prize is raised from
$500 to $750 for just one game.
See the brochure regarding shipping your equipment to
and from the event, those services provided by K&K.
So start your trip by visiting the TAT or High Roller website
and downloading the new brochure. Early entrants are al-
ways rewarded with many benefits so enter now.

USBC Open Championships
Kansas team dominates leaderboards at USBC Open Championships
Joe Keltner of Wichita, Kan., turned in a career-best performance at the
2013 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships this week, and he and his teammates
left the National Bowling Stadium leading in three events.
The 32-year-old right-hander put together sets of 736 in doubles, 735 in team and 683 in singles
to secure the Regular All-Events lead with 2,154. He and Chris Greene grabbed the lead in Regular
Doubles with 1,403, and their effort lifted Team Tilt of Lawrence, Kan., into the top spot in Team All-
Events with a 10,065 total.
Team Tilt, the 2008 Regular Team winner and Team All-Events runner-up, includes Thomas Ault
Jr. (2,043), 2008 Regular All-Events titlist Jay Futrell (1,977), Greene (1,953) and Russ Wilson
(1,938). They are the 34th team in USBC Open Championships history to eclipse the 10,000 pinfall
mark.
"It's pretty surreal," Keltner said. "The numbers seem pretty good right now, but there's a lot of
bowling left to go, so I'm not holding out for anything. I just bowled the best I could, but it would mean
a whole lot if they held up. It's very humbling bowling with this group. They all bowl so awesome. We
have such a good connection. We all bowled in college together, and it's so much more fun to bowl
with everybody and have all 10 of us together."
Two bowlers shoot 300 at National Bowling Stadium
Kelly Bonta of Wichita, Kan., and Verne Heidenreiter of Sheboygan Falls, Wis., rolled the second
and third perfect games of the 2013 USBC Open Championships on March 24 and added their
names to an even more elite page in the tournament record books.
Both bowlers already owned 300s on the championship lanes and became the 25th and 26th
competitors to achieve the feat twice.
Bonta's first taste of perfection at the Open Championships came at the 2007 event at the Na-
tional Bowling Stadium, and the 47-year-old right-hander is one of three bowlers with two at the
NBS. This year's 300 was followed by games of 248 and 228 for a Regular Singles-leading
776 series.
Heidenreiter's first perfect game came in Knoxville, Tenn., in 2003, the tournament's 100th anni-
versary. This time, he rattled off 25 consecutive strikes on the way to games of 215, 300 and 279,
nearly joining 2003 Regular Singles champion Ron Bahr of Topeka, Kan., as the only bowlers with
back-to-back 300s. Heidenreiter, a 49-year-old right-hander, finished with a 794 series, the highest
set in the team event this year.
Thiel and Lillard compete at 2013 USBC Open Championships
Syl Thiel of Lake City, Minn., and USBC Hall of Famer Bill Lillard Sr. of Houston continued their
marches toward history this week at the National Bowling Stadium.
Thiel, 90, is the active participation leader at the USBC Open Championships and made his 68th
tournament appearance March 20. He is in pursuit of Bill Doehrman and USBC Hall of Famer Joe
Norris, who each competed in 71 Open Championships.
