From The Editor:
PWBA at Steve Cook‟s Fireside Lanes was a huge success. The bowling center really
put their heart and soul in this event. Long hours of preparation not to mention the flood of
boxes being delivered all week. The women came from as far as Brazil!
If you were lucky enough to make it down to watch the event you could feel the excite-
ment. One PWBA bowler said the opening ceremony brought tears to her eyes. Betty Mor-
ris Laub Hall of Famer threw out the first ball. Betty agreed it was an event that brings back
the excitement to our sport. She is thrilled the women have their own tour!
The crowd was filled of spectators, families and old friends. Hall of Famer, owner Steve
Cook was in the crowd, Pam Buckner, Sam Baca and so many more. California Bowling
Writers made up welcome bags for each contestant and then after their meeting came
down to root on the finalist.
Storm‟s Barbara Chrisman flew in to do the honors of presenting the champion Elysia Cur-
rent
. Her enthusiasm and smile was obvious as she made it through the crowd..
This historical event was so well represented, from Storm Bowling, the owner Steve Cook,
his staff, bowling fans, the PWBA athletes and the new PWBA staff.
Many fans feel the PWBA is back and stronger than ever. Bowling needed the women
back on the lanes. The PBA has done a great job with their tour and it is icing on the cake
to have the women‟s tour, PWBA.
Makes you wonder if PWBA50 is down the road soon.
Final thoughts, keep bowling in your hearts and also don‟t forget
the women who are pioneers of our sport.
Why? When I asked a young PWBA finalist if she was familiar with
Donna Adamek she had no clue. A blast from the past! I will try to
feature a link each month while PWBA is touring of these pioneers.
