GREAT Weekend in Las Vegas!
LV Locals Excited About Tour
$2,501.00 to 1st-Time Champ
The 9-Tap Tour has completed its Thanksgiving
weekend satellite tour stop at
Texas Sta-
tion
. Three days of great bowling yielded a lot of
high scores, creating a 980 score to be low to
make the Finals on Sunday! With SIX BYEs, 18
bowlers shot one game where the low EIGHT
were dropped to bring us to the final field of 16
bowlers for head-to-head competition. Many
matches came down to the final frames as the competition was fierce. The
9-Tap
Jackpot
was not seriously challenged all weekend, but
David Bass
did mange to
earn an extra
$75.00
for his front 4-Taps.
When all of the dust settled,
Richard Thompson
from Federal Way, WA came out
on top by defeating
Steve Ryan
by firing one of the biggest Finals games (291),
collecting a hefty
$2501.00
for his efforts. This is Rick's first 9-Tap Tour title, having
been a member since April 2014, his previous best finish being 3rd place in August
2014. With 28 years of bowling experience, Rick was both nervous and excited
throughout the match play but seemed to relax in the final game throwing his favor-
ite bowling ball, the Storm 'Sync', drilled by Robert Kelly from Secoma Lanes. Rick
said that he was a bit dehydrated as he was asking friends for throat lozenges for
his dry throat (or to numb it).
When asked of his plans for the money, Rick added that he wanted to buy a great
birthday present for his partner, Shane and perhaps do a little gambling before
heading home to Washington.
Congratulations to
Steve Ryan
, vying for his first Tour title as well, for his 2nd place
finish. Steve recently returned to the Tour in August 2015. He was an original
member from back in 2002 with an old Puget Sound membership number 72. His
decision to make the trip to Las Vegas came at the last minute and it was a GREAT
decision. In qualifying, Steve shattered his previous high series, his best since re-
turning to the Tour. He then shot three huge games to make the final match against
Rick.
A special congratulations to Las Vegas resident,
Roger "Skip" Samad
who
bowled a USBC sanctioned perfect 300 game in the first Sweeper and ultimately
finished 3rdT in the Tournament having done his local fans proud. Known to many
as "Skip", he served as a Marine for 12 years and now works for the VA in public
affairs.
James Strand
, also finished tied for 3rd place earning
$303.00
for his ef-
fort. James was the only final four competitor who had previously won a Tour ti-
tle. Along with his three previous titles, this finish pushes his career earnings to
$18,626.00 in just four years.
Thanks to Texas Station manager,
Jerry Francomano
and his staff for the warm
welcome. Jerry was instrumental in arranging Brunswick's donation of EIGHT bowl-
ing balls which were awarded as prizes for each Squad & Sweeper Top Score. The
Ball winners were:
Michelle Scheitzach, Louis Catiller, Stacy Galicia, Skip
Samad, Willie Manning Jr,Greg Mamac, James Strand & Theresa Bird
.
Note from new Las Vegas Director David Page:
"I would like to thank the 30 plus Puget Sound and Hawaii bowlers who took the
time to travel on a holiday weekend to help launch the 9-Tap Tour Las Ve-
gas. Additionally, special thanks to all the Las Vegas residents and those who trav-
eled by car from neighboring states, to become the first official members of the 9-
Tap Tour Las Vegas club. I am looking forward to developing the Tour in Las Vegas
in 2016! Thanks again for everybody's kind words of support!"
